Standing in Lake Erie, eight miles northeast of Toledo Harbor, is a distinctive lighthouse that some believe resembles a gingerbread house. While there is no witch living inside as there was in the tale of Hansel and Gretel, there was an eerie “phantom lightkeeper,” who for years beckoned to mariners from an upper-story window. The unique Toledo Harbor Lighthouse has guarded the entrance to Maumee Bay for over a century, adding light, charm, and even a bit of mystery to the area.
